Chocolate oatmeal is a quick and easy breakfast recipe that tastes like dessert! It’s thick, creamy, rich, chocolatey, and oh-so-delicious.

Made from the grains of the oat plant, the dish we know as oatmeal is made from ground oat groats (sometimes called “milled oats”), steel-cut oats, or rolled oats. Oat groats are the seeds of the oat plant with the hulls removed.

Oats with milk and fresh fruits: One of the easiest ways to have oats is with some warm milk, fresh fruits, nuts, and seeds. You can even use coconut milk and sweet berries. Take a bowl of warm milk then add half a cup of dry roasted oats along with everything that your heart desires.

Chocolate oatmeal is good to eat oatmeal every day considering its nutritional profile and health benefits, including weight control and heart-healthy effect. So your best options a breakfast food and mid-meal snacks.

How to prepare it:

  • Mix all ingredients EXCEPT oatmeal in a saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  • Boil for 3 minutes. Time it!
  • Remove from the fire and stir in oatmeal.
  • For “cookies” – drop onto waxed paper or aluminum foil coated with Pam.
  • For “bars” – line a pan (I use a 7” frying pan) with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray. Put the mixture into the pan and press it down. Cut into bars when cool.
  • You can eat them as soon as they’re cool enough to handle!

For a special treat: Break into smaller pieces and sprinkle over yogurt or frozen yogurt.

DAIRY FREE: Use dairy-free margarine such as Smart Balance or vegetable oil in place of butter; use soy or almond milk in place of regular milk.
