Description: The Barberis Shipyard was founded in 1931 by Giuseppe Barberis, starting with the construction of rowing boats in various models. Later, motorboats for walking, racing and small sailing boats were also built. In 1937 the “Mariella” racing hull equipped with an Alfa Romeo engine was built. The owner, Ing. Passarin, in those years won several races including the German Grand Prix. In the early 1960s the market for wooden motorboats began to develop; among the various builders the Riva di Sarnico shipyards stand out. The Barberis shipyard specializes in the overhaul and maintenance of wooden hulls and in '61 the Riva service station for Lake Maggiore is made official, abandoning construction. It thus becomes the main point of reference for this kind of boats and in fact you can count a good number of Riva motorboats put back in the Shipyard. In 1982, his son Alcide, born in 1938, took over from his father at the helm of the shipyard. As for the overhaul of Riva motorboats, which remains the shipyard's main activity, Barberis takes care of the hull and the engine, while the work involving chrome plating, upholstery and instrumentation is entrusted to companies specialized in these sectors.
