  • Description: The origins of the GALLART brand date back to 1944, when Joan Gallart began building small clinker boats in Vilassar de Mar (Barcelona), after learning the trade of riverside carpenter. At the age of ten, his son Jaume, current president of the company, began to learn the trade. The quality of the first boats allowed the growth of the shipyards after J. Jaume Gallart spent time at the prestigious Camper & Nicholsons shipyard to broaden his knowledge. GALLART was the first brand to exhibit a yacht at the Barcelona Trade Fair in 1958 and, following the sale of a boat to an influential American at this exhibition, began a long relationship with the United States. For several years, more than 200 yachts built entirely of wood were exported. GALLART came to exhibit his yachts at the New York Boat Show, where he received the key to the city in 1967 for his outstanding participation. GALLART entered the segment of motor boating with undoubted success. Several models of lengths between 10 and 20 m were built. King Albert of Belgium was one of the owners of a 19m unit. The largest motor yacht built, was a 27 m wooden. Fiberglass soon arrived, this brand being the first in the Mediterranean to mass-build the popular GALLART 13.50 MP with this material, of which 150 were produced. The shipyard already had 200 people on staff. More than 100 units of the well-known GALLART 10.50 MP were built. The innovative GALLART 13.50 MS motorsailer was also presented in the 1980s, as well as other models, such as 4 regatta units of the ¾ TON class, applying epoxy resins and fiber carbon, Since 1957, GALLART has exported all over the world, including to markets such as Japan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait... It has also collaborated with important shipyards and the most prestigious naval designers and architects; Sparkman & Stephens, R. Carlson, F. Herreshof, W. Alden, G. Munroe, W. Taquín, R. Clark, A. Baglietto, D. Presless, A. Mercati. F. De Simone, B. Schnaase, Alberto de Vita. In 1986 Spain entered the Common Market, which facilitated the entry of foreign brands with an excessively favorable treatment that the Spanish authorities of the time dispensed to imports. It was mainly the consequences of this fact that led to a crisis in the company that was about to cease its activity. It should be noted that in 1990 GALLART was chosen by the AEROSPATIALE group (France) to build the mold for the Ariadne spacecraft, although the project was frustrated for political reasons. J. Jaume Gallart was the promoter and first president of ADIN (Association of Nautical Industries) and a great promoter of the Spanish Nautical Industry.
